Wash Bay and Water Treatment
Water Collection from a fixed wash bay
Fixed Wash Bay in useThe wash bay should be an impermeable surface surrounded by a kerb. Water from the wash bay would need to be collected into a central point. It is normally advisable to have a silt trap which acts both as a collection point and also helps with the settlement of silt and solids. The wash bay structure itself would normally be provided by a Civil Contractor.
Water Reclaim SystemOption 1
Water from the silt trap falls to a 3 stage vehicle wash (below ground) interceptor. This would need to be installed by a contractor. Water from the interceptor is discharged to foul, by overflow from the 3rd stage. Water is simply discharged to foul with no treatment or reclaim.
Option 2
The second option for treating water is to introduce aluminium sulphate to the first stage of the interceptor. This will both help split emulsified oils and neutralise detergents. The standard of discharged water will therefore be better than if discharged directly to foul. A coalescent filter can also be installed to the 3rd stage of the interceptor. This will help remove the oils split by the aluminium sulphate before entering foul.
Option 3
Alternatively the water can be fully recycled. Again the oversized interceptor is required and the system could still be used as per option 2 above. Water is overflowed after the coalescent to a small chamber and pumped to the reclaim. The water is then hydrocycloned and percolated through active carbon to remove detergents and remaining oils. Accurate data would be needed with regard to plant, vehicles and potential contaminants. Please also note this system cannot remove salts.
