UK Water Companies and Authorities
Local water companies have a number of duties relating to water supplies and sewerage but they also hold powers to control and police discharges of trade effluent to foul drains under the Water Industry Act. Water company trade effluent officers are responsible for implementing these powers and may be contacted through each company's main switchboard.
In England and Wales, the following are the main water companies but there are others:

(In some parts of England and Wales, the local water company may not be responsible for controlling discharges of trade effluent into sewers. In such cases, you will need to make further enquiries, probably with your local council. Your local water company should also be able to provide details of your local sewerage undertaker).
In Scotland there is one Water Authority, Scottish Water.
